Brooks, Warren and Johnson with the announcement

Saying she's not speaking for the Republican party, or as a representative of the Republican Committee, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks is endorsing Democrat Lovely Warren for Mayor of Rochester.

Brooks made the announcement this morning, joined by Warren and former Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson, also a Democrat.

Brooks ran against Johnson for County Executive in 2003, and says she knows the challenges Warren is facing as a woman, and as an elected official.

Johnson says after Brooks worked very hard to defeat him in that race, they put all that aside and worked together.

Brooks is pledging to be a collaborative partner with Warren, when she's elected the next mayor.

Reacting to the endorsement, Monroe County Republican Committee Chair Bill Reilich says it was a personal endorsement by the county executive, and not an endorsement from the Republican Party.
