Reports: Former Buffalo Sabres Captain Talks To Fed. Authorities In Connection With Investigation

TWC News

Former Buffalo Sabres Captain Thomas Vanek reportedly has talked to federal investigators as part of an ongoing investigation in Rochester.

According to various media outlets, and first reported by WHEC-TV on  Monday, Vanek’s agent, Steve Bartlett released a statement by Vanek, who said that the federal government has asked Vanek for his cooperation in an investigation.

The statement went on to say, "I am not the subject of any investigation or prosecution. I will fully cooperate with the U.S. Federal authorities in their investigation or in any proceedings arising out of it.”

While some media reports indicate Vanek was questioned as part of a recent probe into a local gambling operation, neither the U.S. Attorney's Office nor Vanek's agent commented on what he talked to authorities about.

Thomas Vanek played for the Rochester Amerks back in 2004 and then for the Buffalo Sabres until last year. Vanek was named a co-captain of the team before he was traded to the Islanders in 2013.

Vanek signed a three-year deal with the Minnesota Wild earlier this month.
