Report: 17-year-old USA skier from East Rochester dies

teamusa.org

A report on Sunday says that local 17-year-old skier Michael Lillis died on Saturday.

The East Rochester resident was home on break between ski camps and passed away suddenly in his sleep, according to a report on the US Ski Team's website.

Tom Kelly, Vice President of Communications at U.S. Ski & Snowboard said they are "Reaching out to the coaches, and Mikey’s teammates, to make sure they’re OK.”

Kelly remembers Michael as someone who "loved what he was doing,” and went on to say "His was truly a life well spent, albeit tragically cut short.”

According to teamusa.org Michael's brothers Jon and Chris, also skiers, received the news at a pre-season aerials camp in Switzerland, and immediately left to join their family in upstate New York.

There is no word yet on a local memorial service.
