Remembering The Victims Of The West Webster Shootings

West Webster Fire Department

(WXXI & TWC News) Friends and family gathered  early Wednesday morning on Lake Road in West Webster to pay their respects. The day  marks two years since an ambush killed two West Webster firefighters who were responding to a call on Lake Road.

On Christmas Eve 2012 authorities say William Spengler Jr. set a car on fire as a trap to lure firefighters to his home and then ambushed responding firefighters, killing Mike Chiapperini and Tomazs Kaczowka.

Spengler's sister was also killed that day. Two other firefighters and a police officer were injured in the ambush.

On Wednesday evening the Patriot Guard Riders will hold a candlelight vigil in honor of Chiapperini and Kaczowka at the West Webster Fire Department beginning at 6 p.m.

Another vigil will be held Christmas Eve night for fallen Rochester Police Officer Daryl Pierson, and the two New York City Police officers killed in an ambush last weekend.

That vigil will be held at Edmund Lyon Park in East Rochester, also beginning at 6 p.m.
