Redesigned Plans For Charlotte Development Released

Rochester city officials and a Michigan-based developer are unveiling some of the plans for the first phase of a development project at the Port of Rochester.

The meeting Wednesday night at Charlotte High School drew more than 200 people, and while there were a few catcalls from opponents of the plans released by a company called Edgewater Resources, there was also applause, especially at the end of the presentation.

Reaction to the plan was not as angry as it was during the initial drawings that were released back in April.  Now, the developer is talking about a 10 story hotel with two floors below ground, as well as 12 to 24 condo units, several town homes and commercial space.

Jean Gottschalk, describing herself as a 3rd generation Charlotte resident, still isn't thrilled with the idea.

"I’m not totally opposed to development, I'm opposed to development at this scale."

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren feels the developers have listened to concerns from the community, and redesigned their project accordingly. She also likes the idea that it's all private money.

"These are not public dollars that are going into this particular development of Phase one. The public money has been spent on the marina project and the roadways, so we're excited that this developer is taking the risk."

If things go according to the developer's plans, it's possible the first phase of the project would be completed in 2017.
