Local Red Cross volunteers are on standby in case help is needed in the rescue and recovery effort following the devastating typhoon in the Philippines.
Jay Bonafede is Chief Communications Officer for the Red Cross of Western New York and the Finger Lakes Region. He says the Philippine Red Cross has not requested any help locally, but may if volunteers with special skills are needed.
Bonafede says what's most needed now is financial help for the Filipino victims.
The Red Cross is also offering assistance to anyone who may be having trouble locating loved ones in the Philippines. Bonafede says tracking services are available by contacting your local chapter at www.redcross.org or by calling 1-800- Red Cross.
