James VanArsdall shows off his record fish

A WestHenrietta man has landed a record breaking fish from the waters of Irondequoit Bay.

The State Department of Environmental Conservation reports that James VanArsdall caught a freshwater drum that measured 33 and a half inches long and weighed 26 pounds, 9 ounces.

That broke the previous record by more than 2 pounds.

The DEC says the fish, also known as a "sheepshead" primarily dwell in large rivers and lakes, and feed on snails, clams and crayfish using small round teeth made for crunching.

VanArsdall caught the record-breaking fish on June 14th, and submitted details of his catch to the DEC's Anger Achievement Awards Program.
