A broad-based coalition stopped in Rochester today to promote investment in New York's infrastructure.

Elected officials, labor and business people are pointing out that the state's roads and bridges are in a serious state of disrepair, and money from a 5.1-billion dollar settlement with financial institutions related to the Wall Street crash should be spent on fixing them.

County Executive Maggie Brooks says out that over 50 percent of the state's paved roads are in fair or worse condition, and those crumbling roads cost drivers over 15-hundred dollars a year.

Senate Transportation Committee Chair Joe Robach says addressing the state's infrastructure will not only provide for safer roads and bridges, but also put thousands of people to work.

The Rebuild NY Now campaign says for every 1-billion dollars spent on infrastructure, some 28-thousand jobs are created.

Partners in the campaign also point out that every day, some 17-million New Yorkers drive over an unsafe bridge or road on the way to work or school.
