County Executive Maggie Brooks says waiting until public infrastructure fails to talk about it is too risky.

A coalition of advocates and elected officials gathered at the the Monroe County Executive's Office to call for more funding for roads and bridges.

An infrastructure advocacy group called Rebuild NY Now is asking the state government to invest as much in the Department of Transportation as they are in the MTA.

Last month, Cuomo committed to investing over $8 billion in the MTA's five-year capital plan.

Gib Gagnons is the Chairman of Rebuild NY Now, and he says Upstate is being ignored.

"It's not fair, and it's risking our safety and economy. Right now we face potholes, closed bridges, and an infrastructure that cannot support a thriving economy."

County Executive Maggie Brooks says after years of oversight, this infrastructure is past due for more state dollars.

"The unfortunate reality is that, over a year's time, the commitment to roads and bridges and public infrastructure in this state has gotten worse, not better."

The concept of matching investments for Upstate and Downstate interests, DOT and MTA respectively, is called funding parity, and it's the subject of a campaign by Rebuild NY Now. This was their first stop in a state-wide tour to garner support for their agenda.
