RCSD Trying to Change Perception of Summer School

Summer school is sometimes associated with long hours spent wasting away the summer, but the Rochester City School District is trying to paint a different picture.

The district’s summer school program kicked off today with more than 10,000 students enrolled.  Catarina Leone-Mannino is the Director of The Extended Learning and Academic Intervention committee for the district.

She says the interactive programs offered to students, are gaining so much attention - she’s been getting calls from other districts with kids who want to enroll, "Due to the variety of summer programming that we're offering, we've actually started getting requests from residents of other districts asking if their children should participate. And so it's a wonderful opportunity for our kids to be part of."

All district summer programs are for students in need of academic intervention. Partners include Camp Good Days & Special Times, RIT, and the Strong National Museum of Play.
