The City School Board has approved a new policy which enables school officials to distribute condoms to students.
By a 4 to 3 vote, the board passed a policy first recommended about a year ago by health officials, citing the rise in teen pregnancies and STD's among teenagers.
The policy is already being condemned by a coalition of groups, led by Rochester Parents United.
They say it sends the wrong message to teens to distribute condoms, which are designed for the sole purpose of sexual activity.
There is a provision allowing parents to have their teens opt out and be ineligible to receive the condoms.
