RBJ is Being Sold to Gatehouse Media

A well known local newspaper is changing hands.  The Rochester Business Journal is being sold.

Susan Holliday has been owner and publisher for 28 years. But she has announced the RBJ is being sold to Gatehouse Media.

Gatehouse, which has roots in this area, is part of New Media Investment Group, and the Perinton based company owns over 630 community and business publications including some local papers such as the Daily Messenger, Messenger Post weeklies and Daily Record.

Terms of the deal, which is expected to close September 30th, were not disclosed.

Holliday says this was just the right time to make a change.

“Gatehouse approached me and I felt that they were a good fit for our operation; they appreciate our expertise in business journalism and they bring resources and expertise that we’ll need to face the rapidly changing future.”

Holliday says the RBJ will continue to do the kinds of business stories it has been doing.

Holliday says all 29 staffers at the RBJ will have the opportunity to join the new organization.  She says leaving is “bittersweet, “ but is looking forward to new challenges, and will continue to serve on a number of boards in the community.
