RBA Leader Hopeful About Sentry Safe's New Owner

A top local business leader sounds cautiously optimistic about the future for one of Rochester’s larger employers.

The President of the Rochester Business Alliance, Sandy Parker, says she’s had an initial conversation with the people involved in the deal that will see Sentry Safe purchased by Master Lock, which is a division of a company called Fortune Brands.  Sentry employs about 400 people in Rochester.

And Parker says it appears on the face of it that it will be a good fit, although with deals like this there is some uncertainty about what the future holds. She notes that Sentry, one of Rochester’s oldest companies, has been a good corporate citizen.

“Good from the perspective of being one of the best in terms of the way it treated its employees and being good community citizens, very philanthropic. So, hopefully with this new company we’re going to see a continuation of that same trend.”

WXXI News has learned that a top official with Master Lock has been in town this week to talk with Sentry employees and assured them of the company’s intention to use this acquisition to help the company grow.
