Rates Going Up For Some Time Warner Customers

Time Warner Cable is raising some equipment and service fees with the new year. The company has been sending out the notice to area customers, which shows that for the first time, Time Warner will impose  a $2.75 cent monthly charge which is called a "Sports Programming Surcharge."  Time Warner says that charge defrays the increased costs imposed by sports programmers.

There is also an increase in the Internet Modem Lease, from $5.99 to $8.00;  and an increase in the charge for a digital adapter from 99 cents to $2.75. Time Warner says it is investing millions of dollars in deploying new modems that support faster speeds.

The cost of HBO is going up about two dollars, from $14.95 to $16.99.  And the 'broadcast TV surcharge is going up 50 cents to $2.75.

In a notice to customers Time Warner cites improvements made to its internet offerings and its On Demand Library. But it also says that the rates that program providers charge Time Warner for the various channels continue to rise significantly.

Time Warner says that if you are now receiving a promotional discount for these services, that price will remain in effect for the duration of the promotional period. The company says that the vast majority of Time Warner customers who subscribe to HBO get that content as part of a package price, and that price is not changing.
