As Americans commemorate the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., New York State officials have announced a new online exhibition featuring a rare audio recording of the civil rights leader
It's newly recovered audio from the only known recording on September 12, 1962. That's the day Dr. King gave a speech commemorating the centennial anniversary of the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation at the Park Sheraton Hotel in New York City.
State Education Commissioner John King said the New York State Museum's website has exhibited the typewritten text of the speech before, but the audio recording brings it back to life.
