Despite a rainy Saturday night, more than a thousand people gathered at East Ave. and Chestnut Street for what has become a tradition at many finales of the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival:
The always enthusiastic crowd for Trombone Shorty (whose real name is Troy Andrews).
The New Orleans musician and his band Orleans Avenue, kept ponchos and umbrellas swaying in front of the free, outdoor venue, with his mixture of jazz and funk music always putting a big exclamation point on the nine-day festival. He's played the Rochester event five times now.
The Wood Brothers and The Steep Canyon Rangers were among the most popular indoor performances on Saturday.
There aren't any final attendance figures yet, but in recent years the festival has drawn close to 200,000 over its run. Xerox announced on Friday that it has renewed its lead sponsorship for three more years, through 2018.
Next year's festival will be held from June 24th to July 2nd. Four shows were taped by WXXI for national broadcast on PBS Stations: Benny Green Trio, Tessa Souter, Antonio Sanchez & Migration and Clifton Anderson Quintet.
