Push is on for the Rochester Craft Beverage Trail

Alex Crichton

State lawmakers gathered at Swiftwater Brewing Company on Mount Hope Avenue to announce bipartisan support for legislation that would designate parts of area highways as the "Rochester Craft Beverage Trail."

Assembly Majority Leader Joe Morelle is introducing the bill in the Assembly while Rich Funke is introducing it in the Senate.

Morelle notes that through the creation of the trail, we can continue to support the growth of local craft brewers like Swiftwater.

"By increasing awareness among local consumers, and becoming better connected to visitors in our region who care about our communties' incredible selection of craft breweries."

Funke, who is chair of the Senate Tourism Committee, says the beverage trail represents an opportunity to show off more of this community's assets.

Owner of Swiftwater, Andy Cook, says the trail would formalize support from the state for the industry.

"It will go a long way to making Rochester a true destination for lovers of craft beer, craft spirits and great wine."

If it passes, signage for the Rochester Craft Beverage Trail would be on routes 390, 490, 590, the Thruway, and others.

Here’s Senator Rich Funke talking about the importance of the craft brewing industry and a way to promote it:
