Public Fundraising Campaign for Geva Theater

Geva Theatre is announcing a 10-million dollar "Front and Center" capital campaign.

Representatives of the theatre say they've already raised 8-million dollars for improvements to the building which was built in 1868 and was a former arsenal and community hall.

The theater opened in 1985, and artistic director Mark Cuddy says it's seen a lot of wear and tear since then.

The money raised so far has gone make improvements like a new roof, new windows, new air conditioning and heating, masonry restoration and other renovations.

Now Cuddy says the public phase has begun to raise 2-million dollars in artistic, education and facility endowment funds.

That includes a renovation of the lobby, new seating and lighting, new restrooms, a patron lounge and other amenities.

There will also be new housing for guests artists.

Geva officials note that in addition to its cultural and educational output, Geva annually generates over 10-million dollars in direct and indirect economic benefits.
