Program Gives RCSD Students Language Training on Nazareth Campus

wxxinews.org

Refugee students from the city school district are getting a taste of college life this summer while improving their English language skills.

Six students from the Rochester Early College International High School are at Nazareth College for an intensive English language program.

Linda Grossman is the Director of the American Language Institute at Nazareth.

She says by the end of the program the goal is for the students to walk away with enhanced English skills, "Understanding of more cultures, but I think the most important thing for them is to make that college dream a reality. To make it something they can see, they can touch, they can feel. They're very, very motivated students and this just brings it that much closer to them."

The students involved with the program have lived in Rochester for two to three years and they hail from Kenya, the Congo, Thailand and Nepal.

This is the first year for the partnership between the district's Early College International High School & Nazareth.

The three week program is funded through a grant with the city school district.
