Power Restoration Continues; Many Utility Poles Damaged

TWC News

The cleanup continues along with the power restoration following strong thunderstorms that rumbled through the Rochester region on Tuesday night.

At one point, nearly 11,000 RG&E customers lost electricity. As of 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the utility listed less than 200 customers without power in Monroe County on its website.

Authorities in Gates responded to numerous calls for downed lines on Elmgrove Road. Elmgrove Road between Lyell Road and Route 531 in Gates was closed early Wednesday after a utility pole came down on a vehicle there.

RG&E spokesman Dan Hucko told WXXI News on Wednesday morning that crews have been out all night, and continue to make progress, but he says there a number of broken utility poles that need to be replaced.

Most of the NYSEG customers who lost power during the storm in our region were back on line by Wednesday morning. National Grid listed about 2,000 customers without power in Orleans County on Wednesday morning.

Storms earlier,  during Monday afternoon,  caused similar problems in towns in eastern Monroe County, including Brighton, Pittsford and East Rochester.
