Post-Christmas Sales Expected To Keep Stores Very Busy

npr.org

The day after Christmas traditionally is one that is filled with shoppers returning items they just received to find one that's a better fit, or more to their liking.

But the way the calendar worked out, Friday is also expected to be a very busy day and so is the weekend with people coming in to take advantage of big sales and redeem those gift cards.

At Marketplace Mall, general manager Mike Wilmot says the number of gift cards have been increasing every year, and with a lot of people off from work today, he expects many of those cards to be redeemed.

“It’s going to be a real good retail weekend, people exchanging, people spending gift cards .“

Overall, Wilmot says it's been a pretty good holiday season at the mall, with steady sales right through the period. Nationally, holiday sales are expected to be up around four percent over last year.
