Political Ads Target New York Primary Voters

With primary day just around the corner, presidential campaigns are going to be hitting New York hard with political advertising.

Michelle Ashby is the Founder and CEO of Tipping Point Communications in Rochester. She says a lot of political advertising dollars are coming into the region this week, especially from Sanders' and Clinton's campaigns.

Both candidates have New York ties: Sanders is a Brooklyn native, and Clinton is a transplant and former New York Senator.

Ashby says radio and television are particularly popular media for these ads, especially television news programs.

"Those tend to be the types of programs that politicians will want to advertise in because its all about what's happening in your community, and people who are engaged in their community are people who are more likely to turn out and vote."

Television is also attractive to political advertisers, she says, because they can target certain demographics based on programming.

The New York primary is on April 19th, and because there are contested races on both sides of the aisle, New York delegates could play a more critical role in deciding presidential nominees than years past.
