Pittsford Supervisor hopes the NYS A-G can help stop distribution of racist literature

The town of Pittsford Supervisor is looking for some state help in dealing with the ongoing distribution of flyers promoting a white supremacist website.

Bill Smith has written to NY State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman asking him to evaluate the flyers that have been dropped in some Pittsford neighborhoods in recent weeks.

Smith wonders whether some state regulations are being violated since the website includes a solicitation for donations.

“I went back and looked at that website again, it looked like they had expanded it and it included a page soliciting donations. And I thought soliciting donations, sometimes that is regulated by state statute, and I think we ought to take every opportunity we can to try to get to the bottom of this and get it stopped.”

Smith says the flyers represent a personal insult for many people in Pittsford and says they can even be perceived as being threatening.

Smith is also hoping the Monroe County Sheriff’s department can identify who is behind the flyers. Smith says even if no laws have been broken, identifying those behind the leafleting might be a deterrent to more of the flyers being dropped.
