Town of Pittsford residents have voted to approve $9.3 million in bond financing for the Town’s Spiegel Community Center upgrade, remodel and expansion project in a referendum held on Tuesday. The unofficial vote count was 1,650 Yes (69%) and 739 No (31%).
Pittsford Town Supervisor Bill Smith said that Pittsford has “now resolved one of the longest-standing pieces of unfinished business on Pittsford's municipal agenda. We can create a one-of-a-kind community center in an outstanding historic landmark, to serve Pittsford for decades to come.”
The Town will now move forward with finalizing the community center project design and implementing the bid process. It’s expected contactors will be selected by late spring of 2017.
Officials say the renovations will prove modern amenities, upgraded interior space, improved accessibility and parking, and it will also serve as the new, permanent home for the town’s senior center.
The cost of the project for the owner of a home of average assessed value will not exceed $69 per year over the next 15 years.
