Paychex Survey Shows Modest Increase In Small Business Job Growth

The latest index on small business job growth put out by Paychex and the research company IHS shows a slight increase for November, after the index had seen some small declines in recent months.

Paychex CEO Martin Mucci  says the strongest areas for growth were in the South and Western U.S.

“Small business hiring ticked up a little bit in November, so that’s a good sign. Most of the regions year-over-year are flat to down a little bit, although the mid-Atlantic is up a little.”

Mucci says overall there have been more jobs created especially in those involving the service sector. But he says one negative is that a number of those jobs have been part-time positions.

Mucci says that while the pace of job growth doesn't match the levels seen last year, small businesses are still adding employees, particularly in the services sectors.
