Over 4200 Flights Cancelled Ahead of Blizzard

Airlines servicing the Northeast canceled thousands of flights on Friday afternoon ahead of the heavy snow and blizzards moving across the region dumping up to 3 feet of snow in some areas.

AP reported that the three major New York airports as well as Boston, Providence, Portland and other centers will close or are closed already and hope to reopen on Saturday.

The Governor's Office provided more detail of the closures in a statement late Friday afternoon.

o At JFK Airport, airlines have notified the agency that they anticipate ceasing flight activity as of 6:30 p.m. tonight, with many carriers stopping sooner
o At LaGuardia, most flight operations ceased as of 4:00 p.m.
o At Stewart Airport, the last scheduled flight activity was at 4:45 p.m.
o At Newark Liberty Airport, airlines stopped service as of 4:00 p.m.
