Open Door Mission Ready to Accommodate

Rochester's Open Door Mission had been at capacity even before the first blast of winter weather arrived, but Assistant Director of Development, Christopher Scribani, says the Mission is ready to accommodate.

He says the high winds are contributing to the need for many people to seek shelter.

"That's pretty much the deciding factor for us to make sure people are are inside and having the opportunity to stay warm and certainly to sign up for a bed tonight," he said.

The Open Door Mission has 40 beds for men on the first floor, and they can make arrangements to allow for 30 more.

"Should the beds get filled, we'll put down some cots and some mattresses in the dining area, and make sure anyone who is outside can get a warm place to stay tonight that's safe and healthy," he said.

He says that when winter hits, they often see many new faces, and the Open Door Mission wants to make sure that the building is safe and healthy for everyone.

Scribani says they want the word on the street to be that the Open Door Mission is a shelter that is respectful, healthy and safe.
