Ogden Police respond to Spencerport H.S. after reports of threats on social media

Ogden Police say they are working with the Spencerport School District after there were rumors of threats to the high school on social media over the last 12 hours.

Police and Spencerport district officials say the matter has been investigated and the district does not believe its schools or students are in any danger.

But Ogden PD says that for the “safety and peace of mind” of students and their families, police will have officers stations at the school on Friday.

Students at Spencerport were following a normal instructional day on Friday.

School officials say they are glad that students who saw the threats on social media brought them to the attention of their parents and teachers.

Meantime Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statement saying that there were what appeared to be a couple of copycat threats following the recent school shooting in Florida, in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties.

Those schools opened after a brief closure Friday morning. Cuomo says there are serious legal consequences for anyone making a threat and he says out of an abundance of caution, he is ordering the State Police to increase its patrols around schools statewide.
