NYS schedules public hearings for input on recent windstorm response by utilities

New York State Public Service Department officials have announced that there will be four hearings to get public comment on how well prepared RG&E and NYSEG were in their response to the recent windstorm.

That storm, on March 8th, resulted in more than 100,000  customers losing power in parts of  Western New York and the Finger Lakes.

A few days after that storm, Governor Cuomo criticized the response by the two utilities which are both part of a company called AVANGRID.

That storm included a peak wind gust of 81 mph recorded at the Rochester Airport, and it brought down many trees, power poles and utility lines.

Cuomo called on the Public Service Commission to investigate the utilities’ preparation. Two of the upcoming hearings will be held at MCC’s Brighton Campus on April 13th, at 2pm and 6pm.

Two others will be held in East Aurora in Erie County on April 12th at the Southside Commerce Center Auditorium

People going to the hearings may present comments on how they were affected by the outages, if they received timely, accurate information from their utility company, and their overall impression of how the utilities responded.
