NYS Looking For Volunteers To Assess Stream And River Quality

dec.ny.gov

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York State is recruiting volunteers to help with stream and river evaluations this summer.

The Department of Environmental Conservation samples streams and rivers across the state to create an inventory of stream water quality. The agency relies on volunteers to help flag sites that have potential water quality concerns.

So-called citizen monitors visit stream sites once a year between July and September and collect insects and other small organisms from the stream bottom.

Training sessions are scheduled from late April through early June around the state.
