ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — A new government panel is taking a look at New York state's business climate to search for ways to make it easier for companies to start and operate.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo and top lawmakers on Thursday announced the creation of the Business Regulation Council, which will recommend ways the state can reduce the regulatory burden imposed on businesses.
The panel will hold forums throughout the state to gather information about worker's compensation, unemployment benefits, temporary disability, taxes and other state programs and regulations that potentially drive up the cost of doing business.
Cuomo's office says the panel will look to balance the needs of business with the importance of protecting workers.
The seven-member panel includes the leaders of statewide business organizations and union leaders.
