After The New York Times editorial board announced earlier this week that it will not endorse a candidate in the Democratic Primary for New York Governor between incumbent Andrew Cuomo and challenger Zephyr Teachout, it has now backed the primary election effort of Lt. Governor candidate, Tim Wu.
He is Teachout’s running mate and is up against the former Western New York Congresswoman Kathy Hochul on the Democratic Primary ballot on September 9th.
In its editorial, the Times says that Wu, a Columbia University law professor, offers a fresh perspective and “a new voice to counter Albany’s entrenched players.” The newspaper’s editorial board says that Hochul has a troubling record on health reform, gun control and environmental regulation.
The Times did not endorse Teachout for governor in the primary, citing her lack of experience. The newspaper says that Wu also lacks political experience but is seeking a very different job, which carries far less responsibility for running the state.
