NY Republican Convention Coming to Rochester this Week

Republicans are gearing up for the GOP State Convention this Friday here in Rochester. The event will be held at the Riverside Convention Center.

State GOP Chair Ed Cox says upstate New York is home to strong Republican parties and committees, and they will designate their candidate to take on U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

He says the non-partisan National Journal has designated Gillibrand as the most far-left, liberal senator in the United States Senate.

The candidates vying for the Republican nomination are Rye Town Supervisor Joe Carvin, New York City attorney Wendy Long, and Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos.

A recent Siena poll has Gillibrand leading Maragos by a wide margin. That same poll did not include the two other candidates.

Cox says the local Republican party is a terrific organization, and it promises to be a very smoothly run convention that will also get great community support.
