Norovirus Seen in Rochester Area

www,foodsafetynews.com

A nasty stomach bug is being reported in the area.

Dr. Elizabeth Murray, of the Pediatric emergency department at Strong Hospital, says it's a form of the Norovirus. “All over the country, the numbers seem to be up a bit. It’s hard to know if it’s really that much worse in our neck of the woods yet, but we’ll see.  We know that in the winter the stomach bug seems to be a little more prevalent with people traveling and visiting people in other parts of the country. Perhaps the numbers are going up a little bit.”

Dr. Murray says like most illnesses, the very young, elderly and the chronically ill are most vulnerable.

She says there's no real treatment for the virus, except to stay well-hydrated, get plenty of rest and practice good hygiene to keep it from spreading
