Non-Traditional NONCERT to Benefit School Children

A new charity-based concert series is hoping to revive music programs in the city school district.

NONCERTS Rochester will host a benefit concert this coming weekend. All proceeds raised will be used to purchase musical instruments for three city schools.

Sasami Ashworth, the event organizer and Eastman School of Music alumnus, says, "It bothered me a little bit that these wonderful large music institutions thrive in downtown Rochester when just down the street there are these music programs that have tons of budget cuts and staff cuts and no doubt the city school district is doing their best to repair the programs but still there's really no reason that other people that live in downtown Rochester can't do something."

Ashworth says the title NONCERTS means a non-profit and non-traditional concert. The concept originated from a concert series in Brooklyn.

The event will take place Sunday at Good Luck Restaurant in the Neighborhood of the Arts.
