New York State PSC reduces amount of rate hike request from Fairport Electric

The NYS Public Service Commission has set a new, one-year rate for customers of the Village of Fairport’s municipal power authority. And the PSC says while the Fairport authority had initially sought an increase of $1.53 million the commission knocked that down by nearly $215,000.

Fairport Electric said it needed the higher rates to cover increases in operation and maintenance expenses and certain capital improvements.

The PSC says it was able to find ways to reduce the rate hike request while continuing to ensure the utility has the revenues it needs to maintain and improve system reliability.

With Thursday’s decision, the monthly bill for a typical Fairport residential customer will increase 6.5 percent, starting on August 1.
