ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ New York is banning the sale of child products containing a flame retarding chemical known to cause cancer.
Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the measure into law Thursday. It adds a chemical known as TDCPP to a list of chemicals that cannot be used in child care products because of their health effects.
Specifically, the new law bans the sale of toys, car seats, crib mattresses, strollers and other child products containing the chemical.
Cuomo's office says the new law will ensure that product manufacturers turn to safer flame retardant chemicals.
