A ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday to mark completion of a four-year, 180-million dollar renovation and expansion at Unity Hospital.

Unity CEO Warren Hern says it means private rooms for all patients, a new fourth floor with more inpatient beds, a new joint replacement center, the Golisano Neurology and Rehabilitation Center, new endoscopy unit, hundreds of additional free parking spaces and more.

Hern says the improvements were made with the patient in mind, and next to the service Unity provides, the one thing people rave about the most is all the free parking at the 150-acre site.

Bob Donahue, Vice President of Surgical and Ancillary Services, led the modernization project from its inception six years ago.

He says in addition to all the benefits it provides patients and staff, this project has also benefited the local economy, creating over 300 jobs and generating over 75-million dollars for the local economy.

Unity is merging with Rochester General Health System, and CEO Hern says there will be big changes in health care over the next ten to 20 years, and the modernization project positions them to provide fantastic services to the people of Rochester.
