New SUNY Chancellor Visits MCC and SUNY Brockport

Rochester, NY – SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher was in the Rochester area Wednesday visiting Monroe Community College and SUNY Brockport.

Zimpher took over as chancellor on June 1 and is using the campus visits to help generate a strategic plan for SUNY. Zimpher says the strategic plan will help SUNY increase the work already being done to drive economic development and the quality of life in New York State.

Zimpher has visited nearly half of the 64 SUNY campuses. She'll continue her tour then conduct a series of town hall meetings around the state. She hopes to have a report ready by mid-spring.

She expects the strategic plan to focus on sustainability, a commitment to diversity, increased global activity, and ease of access between campuses.

Zimpher is the 12th chancellor of SUNY. She succeeds John Ryan who stepped down in May of 2007 to become president of the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Prior to becoming SUNY chancellor, Zimpher was president of the University of Cincinnati.
