New Siena Poll Shows Favorability Rating Slipping For Cuomo

Siena Research Institute

A new Siena College pollgives Governor Cuomo his lowest favorability rating since he's been governor. The survey released Monday shows 53 percent of voters viewing him favorably, 44 percent unfavorably.

The Siena poll also shows that while 90 percent of voters say that corruption in state government is a serious problem, 57 percent say the level of corruption in state government over the last four years is about the same as it was previously.  The survey also shows that voters see the top two issues for the legislature to address as being jobs and education.

Among the other survey questions, more than three-quarters of voters want to see the state's property tax cap continued; and there is a divide over the proposed education tax credit plan, with 44 percent of voters supporting it and 49 percent against.

Pollster Steve Greenberg says that views on the SAFE Act gun control legislation have remained largely unchanged over time. Overall, the voters surveyed approve of the law by a 62 to 33 percent margin; the legislation has the support of more than three-quarters of Democrats and New York City voters.  Upstaters are closely divided with a slim majority opposed to the law and Republicans strongly opposed.
