New Pro HydroFracking Coalition Forms
By Karen DeWitt
Albany, New York –
A new coalition, calling itself Clean Growth Now, wants to promote the potential economic benefits of hydrofracking.
The group includes pro-business groups and local government representatives from New York's Southern Tier. They've have hired a top Albany lobbying and communications firm, Patricia Lynch Associates, and started a website. Mike Elmendorf, with the State Contractor's Association, says his group believes fracking will create substantial economic benefits, including jobs, that's why they joined the coalition.
"They are convinced that it can be done safely and responsibly," said Elmendorf. "And that there is an enormous economic upside by proceeding with development of the shale gas."
The coalition say too much of the argument so far has focused on environmentalists versus the gas drilling industry, and they want other voices to be heard. They commend Governor Cuomo and his environmental agency, saying he's "set the state on exactly the right course", but say there should not be any more delays in moving toward issuing fracking permits.
