Lilac Festival runs May 11th to the 20th

The Rochester Lilac Festival is celebrating its 120th year in 2018, and for only the second time, a charity partnership has been announced.

This one is with Flower City Habitat for Humanity's Women Build Initiative.

Teams of women raise funds and then build a Habitat home.

They'll build their 14th house this year.

Habitat will receive $2 dollars of every advance ticket purchased for events planned at the new 12 thousand square foot Special Event Tent.

Flower City Habitat CEO Matt Flanigan says it's exciting to have the privilege to be partnering with the Lilac Festival this year.

"To be aligned with something so successful, so important to our community, that will also serve a mission here at Flower City Habitat, is quite an honor for us," he said.

So far, a comedy show with Orny Adams and additional music performance will be held at the tent, along with other events to benefit Flower City Habitat.

Ticketed live events are new this year, and producer Jeff Springut says they have some exciting shows planned to start off this new tradition, off right.

"I'm extremely excited about the lineup this year.  We have some great headliners this year and we think a nice diverse selection.  Something for everybody, and of course, the whole festival is free as it always has been," he said.

And that includes over 50 shows at the center stage.

The full musical lineup will be announced March 6th.

And there's the flowers, of course, with 12 hundred lilac bushes.

The annual Rochester Lilac Festival, the largest free festival of its kind in North America, runs May 11th to the 20th.
