The town of Irondequoit is unveiling its new 40-thousand square foot public library.
Residents were able to access services Wednesday, and a grand opening is planned for this Saturday.
It replaces the town's two former libraries on East Ridge Road and Cooper Road.
Town Supervisor Adam Bello says this project has been a priority for the town for a number of years.
Bello says they promised voters from the beginning that building a new space just to house books wouldn't work.
"We really wanted to make sure this facility that was more than that, a place for technology, a place where people can come and meet their friends. There's plenty of lounge space, meeting room space, tables and chairs, people can come and meet their neighbors, meet the community, and it can be a gathering place."
Among the many features at the new library: a computer lab, free wi-fi, fully equipped craft rooms, and dedicated teen and children's sections.
Through a referendum, voters approved borrowing up to $13-million dollars for the project, but
Bello says the tax impact will be for less than that original price tag.
A grand opening for the Library will be held this Saturday.
The new library is located next to the Town Hall on Titus Avenue.
