University of Rochester President Joel Seligman will announce a new director for the Memorial Art Gallery later today.
The longtime director of the Memorial Art Gallery is retiring. Grant Holcomb, who has been in that post since 1985, was originally set to retire as of June 30, the end of the fiscal year, but agreed to stay on a little longer while the search process was completed.
Museum officials say that under Holcomb's direction, the MAG initiated high profile exhibitions featuring the work of Maxfield Parrish, Edgar Degas, Georgia O'Keeffe and Jacob Lawrence. Holcomb also supported significant initiatives between the gallery and the University of Rochester Medical Center and other organizations.
