New Crime Lab Gets Underway for Monroe County
By Carlet Cleare
WXXI – Federal, state and local officials broke ground Tuesday on the new 30-million-dollar Monroe County Crime Lab. The four-story, state-of-the-art facility will be located on West Broad Street in downtown Rochester. Stephen Bowman is the county's public safety director...
"It will provide us some greater technology that we don't currently have, in terms of computer forensic and in some other areas," says Bowman. "It will give us a facility that will be able to accomplish all the high-tech stuff we need to do."
Bowman says the new crime lab will help address backlog issues, pushing cases up that aren't ready for prosecution right away.
City, state and federal dollars are funding the project.
The county anticipates the project will create almost 400 construction jobs.
The crime lab is expected to be completed April or May of 2011.
