New book examines exotic influences in classical music
Rochester, NY – A new book about music challenges long-held assumptions about classical music. In Musical Exoticism: Images and Reflections (Cambridge University Press, 2009) Eastman School musicologist Ralph Locke analyzed how various composers were influenced by exotic cultures. He touches on standards by Richard Rodgers, Rimsky-Korsakov, and the Lord of the Rings film score. WXXI's Brenda Tremblay reports.
