Nagendra Nepal says when he heard about the earthquake and the destruction it caused, he was heartbroken.
"It just makes me, like, full of tears. I was just so unhappy with that, with the situation going on in my country."
Nepal - the man, not the country - has been living in the United States since 2011. He says he plans to visit his home later this month, but in the meantime, he and other Nepali students are trying to show their support from the MCC Campus Center. They held a moment of silence and prayed for the people suffering half a world away. They are also raising money.
Nagendra Nepal says, "For one dollar, they can have a good meal."
Audra Dion is the head of Global Education and International studies at MCC. She says the school has a significant percent of Nepali students. This event was intended not just to raise money for families in need, but also help the Nepali community here in Rochester reconcile with the tragic events.
"We are definitely looking to fund-raise and in some way impact the disaster over there, and we are looking to do that in coordination with the larger Nepalese community. I certainly think that it's part of a healing process. It's also very much a part necessary for our campus community to recognize this disaster."
MCC students also put together a banner with messages of support they hope to deliver to the people of Nepal.
