Rochester, NY – A Rochester native is coming home to become the ninth president of Nazareth College.
Daan (Don) Braveman served eight years as Dean of the Syracuse University Law School before returning to teaching in 2002. He'll start as president at Nazareth on July First. Braveman is replacing Robert Miller, who's retiring in July after seven years as head of Nazareth.
Braveman says one of the first things that drew him to Nazareth was its committment to the Rochester community. Virtually every Nazareth student is required to develop and implement a community service project as part of their education.
Braveman was the unanimous choice of an 18-member search committee that included college trustees, faculty and students. Their recommendation was uanimously accepted by Nazareth's Board of Trustees.
Braveman is 57. He and his wife are both Rochester natives, and their son is currently a senior at the University of Rochester.
Braveman is an author and an expert on constitutional law, civil rights, child poverty and legal education.
His appointment fills one of the five vacancies at the top of Rochester-area colleges.
