Names Chosen For New Midtown Spaces

Rochester officials have picked the names to be used for a new street and plaza created as part of the Midtown Rising development.

Mayor Lovely Warren and a city committee have decided on “Midtown Commons” for the new open space; and “Andrew Langston Way”  for the new street.  They were chosen from among 328 suggestions submitted to City Hall.

Warren says that ‘Midtown Commons’ honors the importance of the former Midtown Plaza shopping mall to the city’s history and 'Andrew Langston Way' pays tribute to the founder and CEO of WDKX radio. Langston died in 2010.  WDKX went on the air as one of the first black-owned radio stations in the state.

The new streets at the Midtown site are expected to be open by the end of May.
