Multi-Sensory Center Opens in Webster for Individuals with Autism

A local organization serving people with Autism opened a new 5,000 square foot center in Webster this morning.

AutismUp executive director Sara Milko says it's designed to provide social, recreational, and fitness opportunities for people of all ages.

"We like to think of ourselves as a kind of incubator where individuals with autism can come and gain the fitness and the social skills they need and learn how to overcome their challenges, so they can go out into the community and be successful there."

The center features activities including boxing, yoga, personal fitness, Minecraft gaming, social skills groups, adult clubs, and parent support groups. The sensory-friendly space has a trampoline, climbing wall, balance beams, and other fitness equipment.

There are several open houses scheduled at the multi-sensory learning environment. It is located at 855 Publishers Parkway in Webster across from Webster Thomas High School. You can find more information at www.AutismUp.org

There are an estimated 10,000 families living with autism locally.
